Foods That Fight Cancer

By Editorial Staff

Dietary choices play a significant role in the prevention or development of disease processes, including cancer. But do particular dietary patterns exert the same influence, particularly if you've been diagnosed with cancer already?

For the answer, we turn to research that examined how dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean diet, Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, plant-based diet, and ketogenic diet impact cancer progression. In reviewing previous research on the topic, investigators concluded that all four of the above dietary patterns significantly reduce cancer progression.

Of course, it's also important to point out that the Western diet, the all-too-popular dietary choice of Americans, is associated with increased cancer risk and progression. So, switching from the Western diet to one of the dietary approaches listed above is a great way to not only reduce your risk of developing cancer, but also improve your chances of survival if you're unfortunate enough to be diagnosed with cancer.

For more information, talk to your doctor (keep in mind, for example, that that ketogenic diet has been associated with other health considerations) and review the following resources, which provide specifics on each of the dietary patterns shown in this study to reduce cancer progression:
