The Right Time for Vitamin D

By Editorial Staff

Technically, the right time is all the time, considering the research-based benefits of vitamin D. It's one of the best immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant vitamins around, helping reduce your risk of illness / disease.

In this case, we're talking about prenatal supplementation with vitamin D, which research suggests can help children avoid asthma.

In reviewing 15 years of data from the Vitamin D Antenatal Asthma Reduction Trial (VDAART), researchers found that vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy reduces childhood asthma / wheezing in children. Published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the studyincluded women with a family history of allergy or asthma who received either 4,400 IU of vitamin D daily (in addition to the 400 IU in their daily prenatal vitamin); and women who took their prenatal vitamin only.
